California Masonry Council (CMC)’s mission is to be a catalyst, advocate, and the best masonry resource in California. Our organization promotes masonry as an essential design and building material while uniting our trade with the AEC community (architecture, engineering, and construction).
CMC is an active representative of the California masonry trade, participating in forums and events to forge strategic partnerships that communicate, connect, inform, and assist AEC professionals to successfully integrate masonry into their projects.
As a connector and valuable resource among masonry stakeholders, CMC brings experts and industry leaders together to drive growth and positive change.
CMC is a division of the Masonry Institute of America (MIA) — a California-based trade resource providing technical guidance and research to improve and extend the use of masonry — and funded by masonry contractors.
We’re also busy researching and promoting masonry advantages, sustainability, design, technology, and industry news to build the largest network of masonry and AEC professionals.
Ron Bennett served 31 years as VP of E&S Masonry in Northern California and has been deeply involved in many facets of the industry for 47 years. His passion for masonry is rooted in its history as one of the oldest materials used by humankind that is also capable of contemporary engineering and design. Relying on his depth of experience, Ron has brought his expertise to many A/E/C firms, focusing especially on efficient/cost-effective design and constructibility issues, including specific methods for aesthetic and structural quality control.
John Chrysler has been active in the masonry industry for 50+ years. In the first half of his career, John worked in virtually every position — from yardman to contractor president — then pivoted to Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of America (MIA) in the 1990s. With MIA, John has participated in national masonry organizations, including The Masonry Society, where he served on the Board, Executive Committee, and President of TMS. He also chaired the Masonry Code Standard, TMS 402/602, from 2016 through 2022.
Josh Estrella started in the construction industry at age 14, working with his dad building and remodeling custom homes and as a soils technician. Prompted by the September 11th attacks, Josh joined the Army and served in Special Operations with six combat tours. After his military service, he returned to Sacramento to work for a Civil Engineering firm focusing on projects related to wastewater treatment plant operation, design, and construction management. Josh continued his education in business and project management at Penn State and Sacramento State Universities before taking ownership of PTS Masonry in 2019.
Greg Reid started his career as a field engineer for Swinerton, a general contractor, in 1989, then moved to Bratton Masonry from 1991 to 2006 as an estimator/project manager. Greg ran his own union masonry company for four years and then spent another 10 years working for Cooper Chase Construction, a non-union general contractor. He returned to Bratton Masonry as the General Manager in late 2020.
Brian Smith has been the Vice President of Frank S. Smith Masonry (FSM) in Pomona, CA since 2008 and has dedicated his career to the advancement of the trade. A third generation mason, Brian has worked in his family’s business since 1985, from apprentice bricklayer to foreman. In 1995, Brian moved to an office-based project manager and estimator position which remains his primary role today. He also serves as Chair of the Masonry Institute of America and Chair of Mason Contractors Exchange of Southern California.
Ken Tejeda is an active member of Southern California masonry organizations, serving as a board member of the Masonry Institute of America (MIA) for over 20 years and chair for seven years. He is also the current President of the MCAC and Regional VP of the MCAA (California & Hawaii Territories). Additionally, Ken is a Management Trustee for the Bricklayer Local 4 Trust Funds and a member of the Management Negotiating committee with regard to Union negotiations (Collective Bargaining Agreement) with both the Bricklayer’s and Laborer’s Unions. Ken has been involved with the formation of the CMC over the past two years, and is Co-Chair for the CMC board.
